On November 22, 2009, ITS will be performing planned maintenance on its network appliance. The following
services will be unavailable from 6:00PM - 11:59PM:
Details
During this maintenance window, the central network file server is being taken offline to add a new shelf of disk drives. While the shelf is being added, ITS will be performing operating system upgrades and patches on the network file server. Due to most services relying on centralized disk storage on this device, the maintenance being performed necessitates that all services are taken offline. After the central network file server is brought back online, we will be performing operating system upgrades and patches to the various physical and virtual servers within our infrastructure to maintain stability.
Should you have any questions or concerns regarding this outage, please contact ITS.

ITS Staff are pleased to announce that the following remaining databases on the standalone SQL server have been moved to the new SQL Server Cluster as of yesterday, November 3, 2009:
- Altiris
- CRS
- intranet
- mdid2
- RoomSchedule
- Symantec
This is a great achievement for service availability and reliability, as it ensures that the services are able to stay online during maintenance and upgrades. Should a single server need to be taken offline for operating system or hardware maintenance, the other servers in the cluster are able to take the service over.
ITS is dedicated to providing the highest quality services with high uptime to ensure operations at the College continue uninterrupted. We continue to near our COA domain migration goals and switching to a high-availability model. We will continue to keep you posted along the way.

Students returning to the College of Architecture may be wondering where their files from previous semesters have gone. No need to fret - they're still there. Information Technology Services is in the process of copying returning student data to our new network appliance that will provide better and enhanced features for students.
This process is taking some time since there's about 1 TB of data. As your files and folders are copied over, you will see them in your home drive which is mapped to the Z: drive on lab and pod computers. This was previously the network location \\xavier.arch.ad.tamu.edu\home. Since we are changing servers, we have new documentation on how to get connected to this share from a computer on the College of Architecture network.
ITS will make an announcement via this web site when the copying procedure is complete. After that announcement is made, we will provide instructions on how to report if your files and folders continue to remain lost.
We apologize for any inconvenience this is causing and hope to have this process completed soon.
Update: 9/1/09 11:29AM
As of this morning, approximately 400GB of returning student data has been copied over. However, due to permissions problems with much of the student data, much of the remaining student data has not been copied over. ITS is currently resolving the permissions problems and will resume copying data over by this afternoon.
